Nombrosos teixits i òrgans humans tenen la capacitat de reparar-se o regenerar-se per si mateixos. Aquest és el cas de la pell, per exemple. En canvi, altres teixits, com l’ossi, tenen una escassa o, tal com succeeix amb el teixit nerviós, una nul•la capacitat de regeneració. És aleshores quan la medicina reparadora adopta un paper essencial, amb l’objectiu de reparar els teixits malmesos mitjançant l’ús de la tecnologia dels trasplantaments i de mecanismes similars als que utilitza l’organisme a l’hora d’autoreparar-se.
Molecular biology and pharmacology of tissue repair recull els últims estudis científics que diferents experts mundials en aquesta especialitat van presentar durant el 12è Simposi Internacional que la Fundació Dr. Antoni Esteve organitzà l’octubre de 2007. Publicat per Elsevier, aquest volum número 12 dels Esteve Foundation Symposia l’edita Sabine Werner, de l’Institute of Cell Biology de Zurich.
Els Esteve Foundation Symposia els posa a la venda Elsevier a llibreries científiques de tot el món. La Fundació no obté cap benefici amb aquestes vendes, però adquireix de l’editorial un nombre reduït d’exemplars que distribueix als participants i a determinades biblioteques, així com a alguns científics amb un interès especial pel tema tractat.
