Dr. Jan Stjernswärd, Head of the Cancer Unit of the World Health Organization, has dedicated his entire career to oncology and has worked in Sweden, Kenya and Switzerland. Dr. Stjernswärd has given his best efforts to the issues of cancer prevention and control, and has struggled for optimal treatment to be within everybody’s reach. That is why he imparted the sixth annual lecture of the Esteve Foundation, Current problems in the control and management of cancer, on June 1, 1989. Its contents are published in the Revista de Farmacología Clínica y Experimental (1990;7(1):57-59) under the title Priorities and strategies in the control and management of cancer.
