Few diseases affecting the central nervous system spur interest like multiple sclerosis does. The round table Therapeutic perspectives in multiple sclerosis, held on January 17, 1989, resulted in a therapeutic approach of this disease from the different related fields of knowledge. The submissions included in Dr. Antonio Esteve’s Monograph number 9 were coordinated by Jorge Matías Guiu, from the Department of Internal Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Alicante, and by Joan Bigorra, from the Medical Department of Química Farmacéutica Bayer. Submissions presented in this event included, for example, the pathogenic mechanisms of multiple sclerosis, the psychological and psychiatric issues involved or the problems encountered in the design of trials likely to be effective in multiple sclerosis treatment.
