In Barcelona, on November 18th 2010, the Esteve Foundation, in collaboration with the Catalan Immunology Society and the European Federation of Immunological Societies, launched the book Els misteris del sistema immunitari. Com protegeix el nostre cos (Your amazing immune system. How it protects your body). It is a Catalan translationfrom the original Japanese edition and is aimed at explaining the world of immunology to young students.
The book launch took place at El Palauet and coincided with the 5th Congress of the Catalan Immunology Society. In addition to professionals from the field of science, also attending were teachers from secondary schools, one of the sectors with most interest in this publication.
Making the presentation of the book were Manel Juan, from the Catalan Immunology Society, and Joaquim Ramis, from the Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and Balears.
With easy terminology and plenty of instructional illustrations, the book was developed in 2008 by the Japanese Society for Immunology to help young people aged 10 to 14 years to better understand the workings of the immune system. After being impressed by the book’s educational potential, European researchers decided to finance an English translation by the European Federation of Immunological Societies. Now it is the turn of the Catalan version, which the Esteve Foundation and the Catalan Immunology Society will distribute free of charge to schools and libraries on request.
