A small 3-day workshop sponsored by Cornell University Medical College and funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Mich., USA, and the Esteve Foundation of Barcelona, Spain, was held on May, 25-27 1995. M. M. Reidenberg (USA), a member of the WHO Committee on the Use of Essential Drugs, organized and chaired the workshop to review how the model list has evolved, the extent to which it still responds to the original objectives, and whether, with the passage of time, the objectives themselves need to be reconsidered. Attending were D. L. Azamoff (USA), F. Bosch (Spain), M. Couper (WHO), G. Davidson (Canada), L. DeVoto (Chile), J. Dunne (WHO), S. Erill (Spain), B. Hartman (USA), M. Helling-Borda (WHO), M. Jaffe (USA), J-T Li (People’s Republic of China), F. Lobo (Spain), J. Reidenberg (USA), and L. Salako (Nigeria). A report with the contents of this workshop was finally published in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (1996; 59: 251-7).
