In medicine, it is common to name physical symptoms, syndromes or diseases after those personalities who first described them. It is what is known as eponyms. For almost 20 years, the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation has compiled a hundred contributions from Catalan doctors to the history of medicine thanks to the work of doctors Elena Guardiola and Josep-Eladi Baños. His interest in the origins of the medical eponyms that emerged in Catalonia has also been periodically published in the Annals of Medicine journal.
The authors bring together, for the first time in English, the medical eponyms associated with the names of 26 relevant Catalan doctors. Eponyms such as the Brugada syndrome or the Gimbernat linkage, whose origins appear in this book together with the biography and work of the medical personalities that originated them. The Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation presents the publication Catalan physicians’ contributions to medicine: A historical view through eponyms in a face-to-face and online session with the participation of its authors and institutions with the common interest of highlighting the Catalan contribution to history of medicine.
