Fundación Dr. Antoni Esteve
2020 no longer started well. A few days after the start of the year, on February 29, died Sergi Erill Sáez, a pioneer of clinical pharmacology in Spain and founding director of the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation. Together with my mother and my brothers, we started this non-profit institution in 1983 with the goal of honoring the memory of our father, Dr. Antoni Esteve and Subirana. Following his same concern for science, Erill endowed this foundation with its own personality, which today, 38 years later, maintains its same spirit, promoting pharmacotherapy and scientific communication, not only among researchers and health professionals but also towards society.
Days after the death of Sergi Erill, a global pandemic broke out, the devastating consequences of which we still suffer in this 2021 that continues this yearbook. COVID-19 completely disrupted our lives and disrupted all planning. During the first months of confinement, and like so many other institutions, the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation canceled all face-to-face activities scheduled to adapt to a new situation of absolute uncertainty.
Over time, and with this yearbook in front of us, we can say that we have managed to deal with the situation, keeping alive the image of our father and promoting those initiatives that best adapted to the new reality. On the one hand, technology has avoided altering the normal functioning of the institution, allowing constant and secure communication of all team members and the board. On the other hand, it has allowed us to incentivize our offer of online courses and undertake new online learning formats.
Finally, this yearbook is just a summary of the highlights of a difficult year, which has challenged us all, as a group and as individuals. From the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation, we will continue to contribute, no matter what happens, to never stop sharing science.
