From the training courses for members of Research Ethics Committees (RECs) organized by Esteve Foundation, several data and conclusions on the present situation of these committees in Spain were extracted. We analyzed the main problems and aspects to be improved on RECs (through the group-discussions during the seminars), the perceived need for this type of training (by means of an anonymous questionnaire) and the view on the future perspectives of RECs (through a deferred questionnaire).
A poster communication entitled Present and future of research ethics committees in Spain: the challenge of the training courses, was presented in Brisbane during the VIII World Conference on Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, August 1 and 6, 2004.
