Numerosos tejidos y órganos humanos tienen la capacidad de repararse o regenerarse por sí mismos. Tal es el caso de la piel, por ejemplo. Sin embargo, otros tantos, como el tejido óseo, tienen una escasa o, como sucede con el tejido nervioso, una nula capacidad de regeneración. Es entonces cuando adopta un papel esencial la medicina reparadora, con el objetivo de reparar los tejidos dañados mediante el uso de la tecnología de los trasplantes y de mecanismos similares a los que utiliza nuestro organismo a la hora de autorrepararse.
Molecular biology and pharmacology of tissue repair recoge los últimos estudios científicos que diferentes expertos mundiales de esta especialidad presentaron durante el XII Simposio Internacional que la Fundación Dr. Antonio Esteve organizó en octubre de 2007. Publicado por Elsevier, este volumen número 12 de los Esteve Foundation Symposia ha sido editado por Sabine Werner, del Institute of Cell Biology de Zurich.
Los Esteve Foundation Symposia son puestos a la venta por Elsevier en librerías científicas de todo el mundo. La Fundación no obtiene beneficio alguno a través de estas ventas, pero adquiere un reducido número de ejemplares que distribuye a los participantes y a determinadas bibliotecas, así como a algunos científicos con interés especial por el tema tratado.
